Healthcare, Food, & Avoiding ICE
The Trump Administration is trying to ensure that 2026 will be worse than what we've seen in 2025, and our passive Congressman will allow it while saying that he "stands with us". We are asking you all to sign up and be our safety net. If you have neighbors in need, let us know, we can help. When we get notes of neighbors in need, we will let you know depending on the area. We will have to become a more closely knit community while we are under attack.
Healthcare How To
The Master Portal (Everyone Starts Here) nystateofhealth.ny.gov
This is New York’s official health insurance marketplace — the front door for nearly all programs:
-
Medicaid (standard, pregnancy, child, disability, emergency, undocumented)
-
Essential Plan (for low-income adults who don’t qualify for Medicaid)
-
Child Health Plus
-
Qualified Health Plans (for those above the subsidy limit)
You can apply online, by phone (1-855-355-5777), or in person with a “navigator” (community-based enrollment counselor).
Low-Income or Undocumented New Yorkers
If your income is under roughly $20–45K (depending on household size), or if you’re undocumented:
-
Go through New York State of Health, but expect it to route you to:
-
Medicaid for All (regardless of immigration status) — full coverage if under 65 and under the income threshold.
-
Emergency Medicaid — covers ER, childbirth, and life-threatening care if above income threshold.
-
NYC Care (if you live in NYC and are uninsured or ineligible for Medicaid):
nyccare.nyc or call 1-646-NYC-CARE (692-2273).
Run by NYC Health + Hospitals. You get a primary care doctor and sliding-scale fees, even if undocumented.
-
Families with Children
-
Child Health Plus: Available to all children under 19 in New York, regardless of immigration status.
Enroll at nystateofhealth.ny.gov.
Monthly premium ranges from $0–$60 depending on income; free at the lowest brackets.
Seniors and Disabled People
-
Medicare: Apply via the Social Security Administration (ssa.gov or 1-800-772-1213).
-
Medicaid for Aged, Blind, and Disabled: Go through your county DSS office or NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA).
-
NYC residents: Access HRA or visit an HRA Medicaid Office (e.g., 330 W 34th St).
-
Others: Find your local DSS via otda.ny.gov.
-
Pregnant People
Pregnancy Medicaid covers you regardless of immigration status and can be activated retroactively.
Apply via NY State of Health or a hospital social worker — they can fast-track you on the spot.
HIV+, Homeless, or Special-Needs Populations
